YOUR WORST NIGHTMARE tears open the skin of reality to let the horrors underneath breathe.

It blends performance, ritual, immersive sound, movement and creature embodiment into experiences that don't simply haunt the audience — they possess them.

This is where the line between watcher and victim blurs.

Where dreams rot, bodies distort, and every trembling breath becomes part of the ritual.

Each piece is an invocation, summoning fears too personal to name, then forcing them into the light in their rawest form.

Not on the screen.
Not on the stage.
But in the dark behind your eyes.

THE IDENTITY

YOUR WORST NIGHTMARE is the artistic identity of Joss Carter — a continually evolving exploration, confrontation and transformation of humanity through extreme physicality, psychology and imagination.

It is the space where Joss dismantles and reconstructs the human form, using the body as weapon and wound, canvas and creature, vessel and invocation.

For more than 20 years, Joss has carved his own path through film, television, theatre, contemporary dance, live performance, immersive environments, motion capture, performance capture and experimental art.

Across these disciplines he has developed an artistic practice rooted in one fundamental question:

What happens when the human body, identity and imagination are pushed beyond what we recognise as human?

YOUR WORST NIGHTMARE exists within that space.

THE MYTH OF INSANITY

YOUR WORST NIGHTMARE is not a single character.

It is an evolving artistic mythology — a collection of creatures, identities, instincts, shadows, voices, movements and physical manifestations emerging from the darker, stranger and more absurd territories of human imagination.

Joss becomes the vessel through which these things can exist.

He summons, communicates, interrogates and translates the visions, thoughts, whispers, screams, sounds and movements of YOUR WORST NIGHTMARE into a physical language of his own.

That language is built through:

Movement.
Breath.
Instinct.
Sound.
Voice.
Physicality.
Transformation.

THE CREATURE

Joss is a conjurer of bodies, shadows and transformation.

His work is defined by visceral imagination and uncompromising physicality, bringing the grotesque and the beautiful into the same space.

He creates monsters with human hearts and humans with monstrous hunger — characters and forms that expose the things we fear, suppress, desire and secretly recognise within ourselves.

The creature is therefore never simply a monster.

It is a mirror.

YOUR WORST NIGHTMARE is the laboratory in which Joss explores that mirror.

THE BODY SPEAKS

At the heart of the practice is the body.

Drawing upon contemporary dance, classical ballet, Butoh, physical theatre, ritual performance, mythology, folklore, horror cinema, experimental music, live art and immersive performance, Joss collapses the boundaries between discipline, medium and identity.

His creations merge the primal with the poetic, the grotesque with the vulnerable, and the monstrous with the human.

The work can exist within a film frame, on a theatre stage, inside a motion-capture volume, within an immersive environment, through sound and image, or directly within the imagination of an audience.

The body is not simply the instrument.

The body is the medium.

TRANSFORMATION

At the heart of YOUR WORST NIGHTMARE is transformation.

The transformation of:

Body.
Identity.
Fear.
Imagination.
Experience.

Joss is fascinated by the shadows that hide within humanity — its fantasies, abnormalities, insanities, instincts, vulnerabilities, contradictions and desires.

He does not simply observe these shadows.

He embodies them.

He interrogates them.

He gives them movement, voice and form.

He allows them to exist outside the boundaries of conventional identity.

Through this process, YOUR WORST NIGHTMARE becomes more than an alter ego or performance persona.

It becomes a creative methodology, a mythology, a physical language, a laboratory and a ritual through which Joss investigates the unknown.

FROM MOVEMENT TO MYTHOLOGY

The work begins with the body.

Movement becomes character.

Character becomes identity.

Identity becomes transformation.

Every creature is an investigation.

Every performance is an experiment.

Every transformation is an opportunity to discover something previously hidden.

ACROSS REALMS

YOUR WORST NIGHTMARE exists beyond a single medium.

Its physical language moves between:

FILM
Creature · Character · Physical Performance

TELEVISION
Creature · Character · Transformation

STAGE
Physical Theatre · Live Performance · Experimental Performance

LIVE PERFORMANCE ART
Ritual · Embodiment · Immersive Experience

MOTION & PERFORMANCE CAPTURE
Creature · Character · Non-Human Movement

MUSIC & SOUND
Experimental Sound · Movement · Atmosphere

VISUAL ART
Body · Creature · Transformation · Image

IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE
Audience · Environment · Ritual · Participation

The medium changes.

The physical language remains.

THE LABORATORY

YOUR WORST NIGHTMARE functions as a laboratory for creature creation, physical transformation, movement research, character embodiment and experimental performance.

It is where Joss investigates the relationship between:

Body and psychology.
Human and creature.
Actor and character.
Movement and identity.
Fear and imagination.
Reality and fantasy.

The laboratory is constantly changing because the work itself is never intended to remain fixed.

A CREATIVE RESOURCE

YOUR WORST NIGHTMARE also exists as a living creative resource for productions, events, artists and creators who want to plunge deeper into physical transformation and creature performance.

It draws on Joss's extensive network of creature performers, movement artists, SFX and prosthetic collaborators, puppeteers, designers and immersive specialists — bringing together the skills and creative disciplines required to make impossible physical worlds real.

It can exist as a performance.

A character.

A creature.

A collaboration.

A workshop.

An immersive experience.

A production.

A world.

THE CONFRONTATION

YOUR WORST NIGHTMARE is both personal and universal — a confrontation with the things that exist beneath the surface of human experience.

It explores:

What we fear.

What we desire.

What we suppress.

What we become.

And what might exist beyond the limits of what we believe ourselves to be.

The work does not simply ask the audience to watch.

It asks them to confront.

THE EVOLUTION

Born from more than two decades of physical practice and artistic experimentation, YOUR WORST NIGHTMARE continues to evolve across performance, film, movement, sound, visual art, immersive experience, education and creative collaboration.

It is never intended to remain fixed.

It mutates.

It grows.

It transforms.

From human to creature.

From movement to character.

From performer to creator.

From body to mythology.

From nightmare to reality.

THE CREATURE THAT KEEPS EVOLVING

YOUR WORST NIGHTMARE is more than a project.

It is a portal.

A ritual.

A methodology.

A mythology.

A physical language.

A living creative practice.

A promise:

Step inside, and what you fear most will find you.

YOUR WORST NIGHTMARE is the creature that keeps evolving.

Joss Carter is the vessel that gives it form.
