"Creature performer, stunt artist, contemporary dancer and all-round PHYSICAL CHAMELEON
Carter has moved and morphed his way through everything!
His approach to horror isn’t just about jump scares or shock factor -
it’s about transformation...
VISCERAL,
DISTURBING,
BOUNDARY PUSHING,
TRANSFORMATION."

Joss Carter is a British avant-garde movement artist, creature actor, director, and educator working across stage, immersive theatre, film, television, and performance capture.
Raised in the wild landscapes of South Shropshire, Worcestershire, and the West Midlands—exploring the very same terrains that inspired author J. R. R. Tolkien’s fantasy worlds of 'The Hobbit' & 'Lord of the Rings'—Joss developed an early fascination with adventure, danger, and transformation.
He trained at Northern School of Contemporary Dance, graduating in 2010 with a BPA (Hons), where rigorous study in contemporary and classical technique, somatic practice, experimental choreography, live art, music, and film forged the foundation of his uncompromising physical language.
For over two decades, Carter has carved a distinct path within the creative industries as a fiercely independent, multidisciplinary artist. His work is defined by raw physicality, psychological intensity, and immersive world-building—interrogating identity, monstrosity, beauty, and the extremes, rites, and rituals of human experience.
Renowned for his vivid imagination and fearless commitment, he is respected not only for visceral, transformative performances but also for his generosity, discipline, and dedication to collaborative creation.
Whether embodying beasts, demons, gods, or fractured human forms, Joss summons the unseen into tangible reality—turning nightmare into art, and the otherworldly into something disturbingly, beautifully alive.

" genuinely menacing"
"Carter eats up the dialogue and chews his way through every scene."
